Prior to becoming a CFP and establishing Alpers Financial Planning, Mary's former careers included: A Productivity Analyst for Hughes Aircraft and for SYVA/SYNTEX, a pharmaceutical company in Silicon Valley. During this time Mary completed her MBA in Corporate Finance. While her children were young she focused on business consulting, sat for and received the EA (Enrolled Agent) designation with the IRS and formed a tax preparation business. In 2002 after moving to Colorado, she transitioned towards Financial Planning and joined the Alliance of Comprehensive Planners. The existing tax practice merged into Alpers Financial Planning and Mary received the CFP designation in Spring 2006.
Personal: Mary has been married 36 years with grown children and two grandchildren.
Interests outside of work include family and friends, writing, economics, teaching, pro-bono consulting, leadership projects and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. She speaks to couples and women groups on financial wisdom through courses she has written. She has been quoted in numerous publications including the Wall Street Journal, US News & World Report, and Money Magazine to name a few.
