My Path From A Large Brokerage House to Fee-Only Financial Planner

02-01-2017 10:05 AM

John Konetzny, The Practical Planner, LLC.

I took the path a lot of college graduates do and started working for a major investment firm as a financial advisor. I obtained my Series 7, 63, 66 and Life, Health and Variable Annuity Insurance certificates over the six years I was with them but something wasn’t clicking and I needed a change. This presentation will cover the things I considered before leaving, why I chose to be a fee-only, tax-focused, retainer-based financial planner, and why it “clicks” for me. I’ll also talk about the things I did after I made the decision to change my career path and what my job looks like now. I’ll even give you some insight into what I might have done differently if I had it to do all over again. If you are determining what career path to take, or are thinking about transitioning out of a major firm, my story may offer you some new things to think about when forming your decision.
